History of the Celeste Church of Christ
A Brief History of the Celeste Church of Christ By Allegra Byers
August 1875 near the turn of the century, the lot where the present Church of Christ now stands, on the east South Third Street at Cockrell Street in Celeste, was purchased by the church elders, the late C. W. Luna and Professor C. C. Perrin. A small frame building that stood in east Celeste was moved to that lot. The members worshiped here until 1912, when a much later frame building was erected. Years passed. In 1970, the fifty-eight year old building was wrecked to make way for a larger and more modern brick church. On December 6, 1970, the congregation began worship there. The parking area north of the church (the original building) was donated to the church by the late Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Chiles. This was in 1916. The parking area to the south was purchased by the church in 1973.
